It’s that time of year again, The Big Lunch has arrived. But this year it is made extra special where we will also celebrate Her Majesty’s Platinum Jubilee. From the 2nd to the 5 of June people across the UK gather together to celebrate neighbours and community.
This can be done in many different ways, whether it’s sharing a cuppa with your neighbour on your doorstep or joining in on the street’s big lunch bash. This long weekend, join in on the fun and share in friendship, food, and fun for The Big Jubilee Lunch.
The Platinum Jubilee:
”I declare before you all that my whole life whether it be long or short shall be devoted to your service.”
-Queen Elizabeth II, 6th February, 1952
Her Majesty, Queen Elizabeth II is the longest-ruling monarch in British history. It was an achievement reached in February 2022 and in honour of this, there will be a bank holiday weekend of 4 days for the celebrations. With a number of events such as:
- Trooping the Colour
- A Platinum Jubilee Concert
- A Pageant
- Service of Thanksgiving
- The Big Lunch and so much more
There is plenty to do to join in together as a community especially given the last few years we’ve all had to deal with.
With that in mind, it’s time to share some of our fantastic ideas for The Big Jubilee Lunch with you, don’t forget to share photos and further ideas with us below too.
The Big Jubilee Lunch Ideas:
Traditional British Afternoon Tea
In my personal opinion, a traditional British afternoon tea is a classic way to honour Her Majesty and celebrate the big lunch this year. With dainty cucumber sandwiches, mini tarts and pies over a delicious cuppa while catching up with family and friends. Perfect!
We’ve even made life easier for you, whether the afternoon tea is in the kitchen or in the garden, our stylish Uccello Kettle makes pouring safe and easy.
Our Muggi Cup Holder is great for cups, glasses of lemonade and tea cakes. Lastly, our Uccello Grip Mat is the perfect cup location guide for the Uccello Kettle and will keep items in place on both wet and dry surfaces.
Afternoon tea, sorted!
Pack Up for a Picnic
Hopefully the weather will be good to us this weekend and we get to enjoy the great outdoors. We’ve all spent far to long inside, it’s time for a breath of fresh air.
Nothing says that more than a picnic. It could be at the beach where we have all enjoyed a sand sandwich, in the park under a shaded tree or even in the garden at home. Pull our the wicker basket, dust off the blanket and let’s get out and enjoy the long weekend together.
Neighbour Bake Off
We’re all a fan of the Big British Bake Off, and if we are honest with ourselves, we know we have it in us to compete. Well, why not let your inner baker our this long weekend and have a bake off with your neighbours?
Are you a cupcake fiend? A classic Victoria Sponge or humble like the traditional apple pie?
Call around, set it up and grab your apron and Bake!
Street Parties
For the past 2-3 years, COVID-19 restrictions meant that celebrations like the big lunch were kept small or didn’t happen at all. Now, neighbours are encourages to reach and meet up face-to-face to celebrate.
Whether it’s the entire street or you and your neighbours left and right, make sure you:
- Have the perfect location for the party or big lunch
- All have the same date and time
- Organise who will bring what
- The number of attendee’s
- Plan B should the weather take a turn
- Games & activities to do together
Back Garden BBQ
There’s nothing like the smell of burgers wafting through the air to really say ‘hello summer’ is there?
A BBQ is a great way to get the community together too. Everyone can come together, have a laugh and enjoy delicious food to honour and celebrate Her Majesty’s Platinum Jubilee.
Pop the burgers on and toast the bundies, it’s time for The Big Lunch.
