Carers Week is an annual campaign, celebrated every June.
It’s here to help raise awareness of caring, highlight the challenges faced, recognize, and celebrate the contribution informal Carers make to our families and communities throughout the UK.
It is also a time to help those who don’t think of themselves as having caring responsibilities to identify with and access the much-needed support available.
Making Carers Visible & Valued:
Here in the UK, 1 in 8 adults is a carer and over the last year Carers across the country are constantly facing new challenges due to COVID-19. Many are taking on more caring responsibilities in order to make the lives of their loved ones easier.
They need to be recognized for their hard work, dedication, and difficulties they face as well as being provided for. Whether it be with government funding, charitable help, or simply with sharing the right information, support and understanding. That is why this Carers Week, the focus is to help ‘’Make Carers Visible and Valued’’.
Who is a Carer?
For those who are unsure or even unaware about who a carer can be, let us help. A carer can be a paid or an unpaid member of your social network who helps someone with their daily activities.
What carers week is really all about is supporting and celebrating the unpaid carers. This could be a parent, spouse, family member, or even a neighbour that helps care for someone and makes their life a little bit easier. These are the carers we want to celebrate this week.
The Month of Community & Carers Week Activities:
Last week we wrote about The Big Lunch and how it kicked off the ”Month of Community”. The month of June is about sharing and giving back to the community so if you are still stuck for an activity for carers week, look no further:
The Big Lunch:
Usually, the big lunch is a 2-day event at the beginning of June but this year, it will run across the entire month. All you need to do is gather some nibbles and neighbours to celebrate. This is what front gardens were made for, it’s socially distanced and comfortable.
Having a Cuppa for Carers:
Sometimes a chat over a cuppa is all you need. A chance to unwind and be heard. Why not pop the kettle on for a carer you know and unwind together with a fancy cream cake and a spot of tea.
Picnic in the Park:
This is ideal for those who wouldn’t have much space in their front garden but want a green surrounding. Picnics in the park are an age-old tradition and always worth it. Pack up a flask, some finger sandwiches and let’s enjoy the sun while we have it
Host Your Own Quiz:
Put your brain to the test with a general knowledge online quiz with a number of friends and family online. It makes for a fun night and a chance to see some familiar friendly faces. Whether you make up your own questions or look for a template online.
Of course, should you wish, you can enjoy your activities and donate to carers week at the same time to help support their work in helping unpaid informal carers across the country. Click Here to Learn More

With the Uccello Kettle, you will no longer need to worry about burns/scalds, lifting, straining or balancing yourself for a cup of tea again.
