Mother’s Day this year falls this Sunday (March 14th). Traditionally, it is a day to spoil Mum and to show her just how much you care. If you live apart, this usually means a big family gathering is on the books. But is this allowed now with the COVID regulations?
Mother’s Day Lockdown Rules:
Sadly, the lockdown rules mean that the whole family can’t visit Mum or get together on this Sunday if you live apart.
However, with the schools being back since Monday (8th March), the rules for meeting outdoors will change ever so slightly. You will be allowed to meet one person outdoors recreationally. If Mum lives in a care home, she is allowed to have one regular visitor in to see her so she won’t be alone on Mother’s day.
What does this mean?
It could mean that you or 1 family member may be able to meet Mum outdoors in a public place. It’s not the best but one is better than none.
You could enjoy an ice lolly on a park bench or set up for a picnic if the weather permits. You could even bring the fun to Mum in the care home with a few small treats with a cup of tea.
What can you do instead this Mother’s Day?
It has been over a year since COVID arrived in the UK and we have had to learn and adapt to keep us and our loved ones safe. Mother’s Day this year will be no exception. But this doesn’t mean you can’t enjoy it. There are still many amazing ways to show Mum how much you care and that you are thinking of her.
Mother’s Day Alternatives:
A Cuppa Made Easy:
The Uccello Kettle as a gift for Mother’s Day will not only make Mum’s life much easier, it’s safe, elegant, and lightweight. Mum never needs to lift, balance or strain herself again for a cup of tea.
Baked Goods:
Nothing goes down better with a cup of tea like an iced bun or a cream cake. Why not show off your newly found (or rediscovered) baking skills to Mum and drop them at her door for the big day.
Say It With Flowers:
Marks & Spenser are offering 100 stem bouquet for just £20 and that includes free delivery on Sunday
Quiz Night:
Make it a personal quiz all about Mum and the winner gets a prize. It’s like your very own version of family fortunes.
With the year Mum has had, even a phone call where you have a chat over a cuppa could be just what the doctor ordered. Of course, nothing is as good as being there but we are all trying our best and hopefully someday soon we will be back to our normal once again.
